Let me offer something…
For one moment just right now, take a deep slow breath.
Suspend all your ideas and beliefs and judgements.
Let the continuity of your life fade,
Just for one moment.
Just for this moment, be here now.
Let all thoughts come and go.
Let them pass like leaves on a river.
Open the front door, open the back door. Don’t serve any tea.
Breathe into here and now.
Recognise that the world is filled with comings and goings.
Rising and falling.
This was the case before we were born and it will be the case long after we drop our bodies.
We can scarcely call anything ours, for the moment we do it glides away on the current.
To try to cling to the passing is what brings us pain.
Just for this moment, right now, breathe into the now and release that tight grip on it all.
It doesn’t belong to you anyway.
All form… It’s been given birth many times before and will embrace death many times over.
Even you, whom you have come to know, are another leaf on the river.
Yet when you quiet the mind and there are no stories of you and yours. No ideas of continuity… What remains?
When you close your eyes and you cease to mill the grain of the mind… What remains?
What is left when the changing changes and the growing grows and the dying dies..?
Notice what is still there beyond and before it all…
What was there before it all..?
What will be there long after it all..?
This is you, the true you.
It is all you truly have.
And it is all you’ll ever need.
